Hearts from Home is for deploying soldiers and their families. Each soldier will receive a heart from his or her, spouse - significant other - parent or child, that will be placed in their left BDU pocket. The piece that the heart was taken from will be left with the family member.

The taking of the heart by the soldier represents carrying the heart of loved ones with him or her. Placing the heart in the left pocket represents carrying it close to their heart. The void left from where the heart was taken, represents the void that is left while the soldier is gone. This is simply a symbolic act between soldier and family.
Once the soldier returns home, the void is filled and the heart is returned.

Hearts from Home was created for deploying soldiers to show support is being given from thier families. It is also a way of saying: I'm sending my love with you. This simple act is not only one that is positive, but it also carries a sense of security with it as well.
